MotoGP in Lombok: Hotel Demand, ADR and Tourism Impact
A MotoGP 2025 booking case reported room rates 3–4 times usual levels, while Mandalika occupancy reached 100%. Compare event peaks with San Bada’s market benchmarks.
Updated

MotoGP gives travellers a specific reason to visit Lombok on a specific weekend. For hotels, villas, restaurants and transport providers, that concentration of demand is what makes the event commercially interesting.
The 2026 Indonesian Grand Prix takes place at Mandalika from 9 to 11 October. To understand its hospitality opportunity, this guide combines the current race schedule with published evidence from the completed 2025 event. The 2025 event figures are not results or forecasts for 2026. Our September 2026 market-report benchmarks are identified separately.
Room Rates and Occupancy at a Glance
| Question | Evidence and scope |
|---|---|
| How much higher were rates than usual? | 3–4 times usual rates, equivalent to a 200–300% increase, in MGPA's reported 75-room booking experience ahead of MotoGP 2025. This is a booking case, not a market-wide ADR estimate. |
| What does our Monthly Market Report show about the wider market? | Kuta–Batu Riti pool-tagged entire properties: 1BR ADR $99.01 / occupancy 68%; 2BR $132.47 / 72%; 3BR $183.50 / 72%. These are trailing-12-month figures observed in September 2026, not matched non-event days. |
| How full were hotels during the 3–5 October 2025 race weekend? | Mandalika 100% · Lombok Island average 93% · Mataram 90%, as reported by ITDC. |

What Is MotoGP Season in Lombok?
MotoGP is an international motorcycle racing championship, with riders collecting points across successive rounds. Lombok hosts one of those rounds at the Pertamina Mandalika International Circuit, in the Kuta area of southern Lombok.
The official 2026 calendar lists 22 Grands Prix, with Indonesia as Round 17, following Japan and preceding Australia. “MotoGP season in Lombok” therefore refers to a concentrated local event period within the wider championship. Dates vary between years, so always check the official MotoGP calendar.
The 2026 Mandalika Race Weekend
All times below are WITA, Lombok local time (UTC+8), as published in the official Indonesian GP timetable and checked on 10 October 2026.
| Day | Selected session | Local start |
|---|---|---|
| Friday, 9 October | MotoGP Free Practice 1 | 10:45 |
| Friday, 9 October | MotoGP Practice | 15:00 |
| Saturday, 10 October | MotoGP qualifying begins | 10:50 |
| Saturday, 10 October | MotoGP Sprint | 15:00 |
| Sunday, 11 October | Moto3 race | 12:00 |
| Sunday, 11 October | Moto2 race | 13:15 |
| Sunday, 11 October | MotoGP Grand Prix | 15:00 |
Practice helps riders prepare, while qualifying determines starting positions. Under the 2026 format, Saturday's qualifying sets the grid for both races. The Sprint is approximately half the Grand Prix distance and awards 12 points to the winner; Sunday's full Grand Prix awards 25. The Sprint result does not set the Sunday grid. See MotoGP's official Sprint explanation.
For accommodation operators, the programme is a useful planning tool: guests may need early breakfast, coordinated transfers and flexible arrival arrangements across several days.
How Many People Attend?
Indonesia's Coordinating Ministry for Economic Affairs, citing MGPA data, reported 140,324 spectators in 2025, compared with 121,252 in 2024—an increase of 15.73%. The 2025 event ran from 3 to 5 October. Source: the ministry's event report.
These are reported event-attendance figures. The release does not establish how many were unique tourists, overseas arrivals or overnight hotel guests. An attendee may live locally, and a visitor may attend on multiple days. Room demand must therefore be assessed separately from the headline crowd count.
For a hotel or villa, the more useful questions are how many guests need accommodation, how long they stay, and which locations and price levels they choose.
What Happens to Hotel Occupancy?
Occupancy rate is rooms sold divided by rooms available over the same period, multiplied by 100. It describes how much accommodation capacity is occupied; it is separate from ADR, which measures the rate on sold rooms.
For the 3–5 October 2025 race weekend, ITDC reported the following hotel occupancy figures:
| Area | Reported hotel occupancy during MotoGP 2025 |
|---|---|
| The Mandalika | 100% |
| Lombok Island | 93% |
| Mataram city | 90% |
The figures appear in ITDC's March 2026 review of the 2025 event. They describe the event period, not annual occupancy, and should not be read as a promise that every property achieved the same result.
Our reading is that the demand opportunity extended beyond the immediate circuit area. The practical response is to make location, access and the guest experience clear: a property farther away needs a convincing transport plan, while one nearby still needs dependable service.
How Much Higher Were Room Rates Than Usual?
A concrete 2025 booking example puts rates at 3–4 times their usual level: a 200–300% increase. On 18 September 2025, MGPA president director Priandhi Satria told ANTARA that the 75 rooms he had booked for his guests still cost three to four times as much, with minimum stays of four to five days. Source: ANTARA's direct interview.
The calculation is (event rate ÷ usual rate − 1) × 100: three times the usual rate means +200%, and four times means +300%. This reported booking experience illustrates the size of a peak-period premium. It does not establish an average increase for every Lombok hotel, a matched-weekday study, or a realised villa ADR uplift.
The Wider Market in Our Monthly Market Report
San Bada's September 2026 Monthly Market Report, observed on 26 September, provides a useful view of ongoing accommodation performance in Kuta–Batu Riti:
| Kuta–Batu Riti entire-property type, Pool Yes | Trailing-12-month ADR and occupancy |
|---|---|
| 1 bedroom | US$99.01 · 68%; 49 active listings |
| 2 bedrooms | US$132.47 · 72%; 65 active listings |
| 3 bedrooms | US$183.50 · 72%; 32 active listings |
Source: San Bada's Monthly Market Report, September 2026, regional table and methodology (pages 3 and 8), based on AirDNA Market Overview. The regional sample uses a manually drawn Kuta–Batu Riti area, entire properties, a 4.1+ rating filter, at least 11 reviews and at least 181 available days. It includes listings on Airbnb, Vrbo or Booking.com. Pool Yes does not distinguish private from shared pools. Active counts refer to the preceding month and are not the full historical observation count.
These are trailing-12-month market benchmarks, which can include event nights, rather than an ordinary-week or same-weekday baseline. They help put the race-week demand peak in context. Dividing a hotel event rate by a whole-villa annual ADR would mix different products and periods, so it would not measure the MotoGP uplift for those villas.
For a property-level comparison, compare the same room or villa on the race dates and comparable non-event weekdays, using the same guest count, tax treatment and booking terms. Calculate ADR from revenue and sold nights for each period.
The Separate Year-on-Year ADR Measure
Average daily rate (ADR) is room revenue divided by rooms sold. Source: CoStar's ADR definition.
SiteMinder's 9 September 2025 advance-booking snapshot reported IDR 3,013,711 for 2–5 October 2025 in Lombok and South Bali combined, versus IDR 2,524,821 for the same dates in 2024: +19.4%, rounded to 19% in the release. Source: SiteMinder.
That is a year-on-year change, separate from the usual-rate premium above. The 2024 race was in September, and this pre-event snapshot is not a final result for all Lombok hotels. Price decisions should reflect the property's own comparable rates, booking pace and guest experience.
What Was the Economic Impact?
In March 2026, ITDC reported an estimated IDR 4.96 trillion national economic impact from the 2025 Mandalika MotoGP, citing a study by LETMI at Institut Teknologi Bandung. It also reported participation by more than 600 local small businesses and employment involving more than 3,000 workers. Source: ITDC's economic-impact announcement.
The estimate covers wider economic effects. It is not Lombok hotel revenue, the organiser's profit or a financial return available to property owners. The announcement provides a headline study result rather than enough methodological detail to independently reproduce it.
For a local business, the opportunity is more concrete: serving accommodation, meals, transfers, supplies and other needs created by the event.
Why Can MotoGP Be a Good Hospitality Opportunity?
Our interpretation of the evidence is that MotoGP creates three useful openings for well-prepared operators.
A defined booking occasion. Guests have a clear reason and date for travel. Publish accurate availability and event information early, and make booking conditions easy to understand.
Scope to sell a better experience. Reliable pickups, breakfast matched to the timetable, luggage storage and clear guest communication can make a stay easier. Price those services transparently and confirm what can actually be delivered.
A chance to introduce guests to more of Lombok. Offer optional days before or after racing, with time for the coast, local food and a quieter stay. Treat longer stays and return visits as goals to earn through the experience.
Higher room revenue still has to cover commissions, staffing, transport and operating costs. Review event performance separately from the rest of the year; a few busy nights cannot establish a property's annual viability.
Designing for the Stay Beyond the Circuit

After a day at the circuit, a shaded terrace, a comfortable room and a private place to rest can become the memorable part of a stay. This CACTURA concept explores the relationship between shelter, water and privacy.
For a villa or boutique hospitality project, translate that thinking into a practical brief: straightforward arrivals, suitable luggage space, comfortable circulation and places to pause. Those decisions should serve guests throughout the year.
